He Got Sober Before He Ever Ran a Race. Then He Ran an Ultramarathon in All 50 States in 50 Days and Raised $1.03 Million for Make-A-Wish.

Brady McDonald - World-Record Ultramarathoner and Keynote Speaker

Brady McDonald · World-Record Ultramarathoner · CEO, Barefoot Land Co. · Founder, Zero to 100 Wishes · Cape Coral, Florida

A few years ago, Brady McDonald was an overweight father of two who drank too much and had never run a race.

The first thing he changed wasn’t his fitness. He got sober.

What followed was one of the most unlikely endurance stories in the country, and a keynote that does something most keynotes never do: it gets a room to act before the applause is over.

He Won His First 50-Miler. Then He Spent Three Days in the Hospital.

Within months of getting sober, Brady entered a 50-mile ultramarathon. He won it, and then spent three days in the hospital. Most people would have taken that as a sign to stop.

He came back stronger. His first 100-miler raised $93,000 for Easter Seals, and from there he took on some of the toughest endurance races in the world, including the Moab 240 and the Arizona Monster 300.

None of it happened in a vacuum. Brady is the CEO of Barefoot Land Co., an eight-figure real estate development company, and he was building that business through addiction and sobriety, economic downturns and devastating hurricanes while raising a family. The running became proof of something he now teaches leaders: setbacks are part of the course, not the end of it.

50 States. 50 Days. 103 Wishes.

That momentum sparked something bigger. Brady set out to run a 50K ultramarathon in all 50 U.S. states in 50 consecutive days, something no one had ever done. He covered 1,553 miles and crossed the final finish line in Honolulu alongside his wife, two daughters and an incredible team.

Together they raised more than $1.03 million for Make-A-Wish, helping grant 103 wishes to children battling critical illnesses. Brady is clear about which number matters most. The greatest accomplishment wasn’t the miles. It was what the miles made possible. He went on to found Zero to 100 Wishes to keep that work going.

$200,000 in Three Minutes

The proof that his message travels came at a Boardroom Mastermind event in Dallas. By the end of Brady’s keynote, the room had committed roughly $200,000 in charitable contributions in about three minutes, the most the event had raised for a single cause in more than a decade.

There wasn’t a dry eye in the room. That’s the most we’ve ever raised for a charity cause at a single event, $200,000, more than any other cause going back a decade plus.

Entrepreneur and best-selling author Brandon Brittingham pulled out his credit card on the spot and gave $10,000 to Make-A-Wish. Rising Phoenix CEO Jace Graham said he left the room wanting to answer the question Brady asked: what is your gift, and who could you use it for in the next 30 days?
