Speaker Spotlight

He Was Cut From the NFL Three Times. He Became Only the Third Person in History to Play Pro Football and Compete in the Winter Olympics.

Johnny Quinn - Keynote Speaker and Olympian

Johnny Quinn — U.S. Olympian in Bobsled · Former Pro Football Player · Certified Speaking Professional (CSP)

At 26, Johnny Quinn’s football career ended. He had been cut three times, and everything he had built toward for years was gone.

Eight years later he was pushing a bobsled at the Winter Olympics. He is the third person in history to both play professional football and compete in the Winter Games, which is a rarer distinction than most audiences realise when they first hear it.

What makes him work as a speaker is that he did not stumble into the second career. He argues it was the direct product of habits he kept during the years nobody was watching.

Readiness Is Not Luck

The comeback story is the hook, but the argument underneath it is more useful to a corporate audience than another account of perseverance. Johnny’s position is that opportunity arrives without warning and almost always finds people in whatever condition they were already in.

You do not rise to the occasion. You fall to the level of preparation you were carrying when it showed up. His P.U.S.H. framework is built around that, and it has been delivered inside organizations including Toyota, Southwest Airlines and Verizon.

Getting cut three times should have ended it. Instead it became the thing that made the next opportunity possible.

He turns rejection into a practical question rather than an emotional one: what do you do in the gap between the no and the next thing? For sales teams and organizations mid-disruption, that gap is the whole problem, which is why he lands as well in a kickoff as he does at a leadership offsite.

Four Talks, Different Jobs

Push What’s Possible is the signature keynote and the broadest fit, built around collaborating under pressure and building habits that hold. When No Means Next is the rejection and resilience version, and it is the strongest choice for a sales audience. Winning Leadership targets managers and the cultures they build. Future-Proof Teams is for organizations facing a shift they did not choose, which describes most rooms right now.

He holds the Certified Speaking Professional designation from the National Speakers Association, which fewer than a small fraction of professional speakers earn, and he wrote PUSH: Breaking Through Barriers. His story has been covered by ESPN, CNN, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal.

The feedback I received from Johnny Quinn’s message at our Senior Leadership Team Offsite was fantastic and exactly what we needed. — Illias Simpson, CEO and President, Radial

Planners repeatedly mention that he is easy to work with and flexible on last-minute schedule changes, which matters more than it should have to. He is based in Dallas.
