About Matthew M. Anderson
Matthew M. Anderson is an author, keynote speaker, and leadership coach who has spent more than two decades developing leaders across the nonprofit, government, and public sectors. He works with organizations that want their people to stop going through the motions and start bringing their full capacity to the job, and he does it with humor, honesty, and a framework teams actually remember after the event ends.
Matt is the author of Being Super Human: How to Crush Your Inner Critic, Craft Your Cape, and Offer the Heroic Gift of the True You, along with his earlier book Running Mate. The ideas in Being Super Human now anchor his keynotes and workshops, including the signature Craft Your Cape exercise that has become a favorite among HR leaders and team managers.
His background is unusual for a corporate stage, and that is part of what makes him effective. He is an ordained pastor and a black belt in karate, and he has spent his career in rooms where people are asked to serve something bigger than themselves. That experience shapes how he talks about accountability, belonging, and servant leadership, and it lands with audiences who are tired of surface-level motivation.
Matt has worked with organizations including the Bank of North Dakota, North Dakota Health and Human Services, Bismarck State College, Capitol Credit Union, North Dakota Parks and Recreation, Legacy Financial Partners, and the Independent Community Banks of North Dakota. He is based in Bismarck with his wife Lacee and their three kids, and he speaks nationwide.

Why spend a career doing an average impression of someone else when there will never be another you? Based on Matt's book Being Super Human, this playful but pointed session removes the stigma around naming our strengths out loud and admitting our limitations honestly.
Participants learn to confront the self-defeating voice of their inner critic while building a visual "cape" that captures what they actually bring to a team. The exercise gives people language for their own contribution and a reason to notice everyone else's, which is where transformative working relationships start.
Key Takeaways:
- Recognize and quiet the inner critic that limits performance
- Name individual strengths without the discomfort of self-promotion
- Build a shared visual language for what each teammate contributes
- Turn self-awareness into stronger, more trusting work relationships
Too many employees are treated as if a job description and internet access are all they need, which ignores the most basic fact about human nature. People need to belong. When organizations embrace that need instead of working around it, they unlock the most powerful, most neglected, and least expensive resource they have.
With humor, storytelling, and practical steps, Matt shows managers and team members how to build a magnetic community at work and why relationship-building is not a soft add-on but the engine behind results.
Key Takeaways:
- Understand why belonging drives retention and discretionary effort
- Identify the habits that quietly isolate people on a team
- Take concrete steps toward authentic community at work
- Connect relationship health to measurable team outcomes
When we assume leadership is the top box on the org chart, we miss the chance to make a real impact from wherever we already sit. Real leadership is a commitment to use our current position and capacity to serve teammates now, rather than waiting for more authority, more budget, or a better title.
This session equips team members to lead by serving the people above, below, and beside them, which is how a culture shift actually spreads through an organization.
Key Takeaways:
- Lead from any seat without waiting for a promotion
- Serve up, down, and across the organizational chart
- Replace positional thinking with practical influence
- Create culture change that moves through the whole company
What is your team's Kindness Factor? This session digs into six relational values that shape a team's ability to collaborate, and shows how to protect a culture with healthy boundaries and real conflict-management systems rather than good intentions alone.
Attendees also learn how the Kindness Factor survey tool measures those six areas, so managers can see exactly where they stand and set goals for improving team culture on purpose instead of by accident.
Key Takeaways:
- Learn the six relational values behind effective collaboration
- Set healthy boundaries and workable conflict-management systems
- Help team members feel valued beyond their work product
- Use the Kindness Factor survey to measure and track culture
