Amplify Speakers

Panel Moderators & Fireside Chat Facilitators

A panel moderator has a genuinely different job from a keynote speaker, even though event planners often treat the two as interchangeable. A moderator's material isn't a prepared talk — it's the ability to ask a sharp follow-up question in real time, keep multiple panelists on track, and read a room well enough to know when to redirect versus when to let a tangent run.

Tell us the panel topic, the panelists if you've already confirmed them, and the format, and we'll help you find someone suited to facilitating rather than someone who happens to also be a good keynote speaker.

What Kind of Session Is This?

Multi-Panelist Industry Panels

Three or more speakers on a shared topic, requiring a moderator who can manage speaking time and draw out contrast between panelists' views.

Executive Fireside Chats

A single-guest, conversational interview format, needing genuine interviewing skill rather than a scripted Q&A read from cards.

Audience Q&A Facilitation

Managing live audience questions after a keynote or panel, requiring quick thinking and the judgment to redirect an unproductive question gracefully.

What Makes a Moderator Good at This Specifically

Preparation that isn't visible on stage. A strong moderator has researched every panelist deeply enough to ask a question only they could ask, while staying flexible enough to abandon the prepared list entirely if the conversation goes somewhere more interesting. That's a different skill than delivering a polished keynote, and not every great keynote speaker is naturally good at it.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you have dedicated panel moderators? We don't carry a single standalone category for this, since moderating skill often overlaps with our communication and emcee speakers. Tell us your panel topic and panelists, and we'll find the right fit or recommend someone specifically suited to it.

Should we use the same person as our keynote speaker to also moderate a panel?Only if they're genuinely comfortable in that format. It's a different skill from delivering a prepared talk, and a mismatch is noticeable to the audience.

What do panel moderators cost?Typically less than a full keynote fee, though it varies by speaker and format. Ask us for specifics once we understand your event.

How far in advance should we book a moderator?Sixty to ninety days is usually sufficient, since moderator preparation is lighter than a full keynote.
