Burnout & Employee Wellbeing Speakers
Most burnout keynotes fail for the same reason. They put an exhausted audience in a room and tell them to sleep more, breathe deeply and set better boundaries. The audience already knows all of that. What they also know, and what the speaker often will not say, is that their exhaustion is not a personal discipline problem. It is a staffing level, a workload, a vacancy nobody is filling, and a manager who has not been given permission to say no on their behalf.
Sit in that room as an employee and a wellness talk lands as blame. You are tired because you are not resilient enough. Nothing damages trust faster.
The speakers who actually move this are the ones willing to name the organizational drivers in front of leadership, and then give individuals something genuinely usable within the constraints they cannot change. That is a much harder talk to deliver, and it is the difference between a session people quote for a year and one that makes them cynical.
Dr. Anna Thomas is a board-certified physician working on workplace wellbeing, which matters in this category because a room full of clinicians or exhausted employees will not take a framework from someone who has never carried the load.
The Roster

Matching the Speaker to the Event
Leadership team sessions on the drivers. The most valuable booking in this category and the one organizations skip. If burnout is a workload and staffing problem, the room that can actually change it is the leadership team, not the all-staff meeting. Chris Rollins works on the friction that quietly drives people out, and Dr. Anna Thomas brings clinical authority to a conversation executives sometimes want to treat as soft.
HR and people operations conferences. A professional audience that already knows the statistics and does not need convincing that burnout is real. What they need is language for the executive conversation and something practical they can implement without a budget line. Rachel Druckenmiller and Shari Collins both work at that level.
Healthcare, nursing and caregiving audiences. The highest-burnout population in the economy and the least tolerant of generic wellness content. Andrea Hollingsworth works specifically on compassion fatigue, which is a different mechanism from ordinary overwork and gets conflated constantly. See also our healthcare speakers.
All-staff wellbeing days. Keep it short, make it genuinely useful, and pick someone who will acknowledge the conditions before offering tools. Jessica Weiss and Mandy Gill both land well with mixed audiences, and Brad de Comarmond and Will Craig reach the part of the room that historically does not engage with this subject at all.
The question to ask before you book
Ask the speaker directly what they say to leadership about the causes. If the answer is entirely about individual habits, you are booking a session that will read as blame to anyone genuinely struggling. If the answer includes workload design, staffing, manager permission and psychological safety, you are booking someone who understands the problem.
And one thing worth being honest about internally
A keynote does not fix burnout. If your people are exhausted because you are three roles short, the session will be well received and change nothing, and some of the audience will notice the gap between the message and their Monday. That is not an argument against booking. It is an argument for booking it alongside a change people can see, so the talk reads as a signal of intent rather than a substitute for action.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is a burnout keynote speaker?
A speaker who addresses workplace exhaustion, its organizational causes and its practical remedies. The strongest ones cover both levels: what leadership can change about workload, staffing and manager authority, and what individuals can do within constraints they do not control.
Do you have speakers with clinical credentials?
Yes. Dr. Anna Thomas is a board-certified physician and author of Workplaces That CARE. Valeriya Hjertenaes holds a PhD and works on neurodiversity and sustainable leadership. Shari Collins is Chief Well-Being Officer certified and sits on the Harvard Business Review Advisory Board. Clinical and academic credibility matters more in this category than in most, because the audience is often being asked to trust advice about their own health.
What is the difference between burnout and compassion fatigue?
Burnout generally comes from sustained overload and lack of control. Compassion fatigue comes from repeated exposure to other people's suffering, which is why it shows up in healthcare, social work, education and emergency services. They feel similar and need different treatment, and conflating them is a common programming mistake. Andrea Hollingsworth works specifically on the second.
Should we book this for staff or for leadership?
If you can only do one, do leadership. The people who can change workload and staffing are the people who need the session most, and an all-staff talk without any leadership change tends to increase cynicism rather than reduce exhaustion.
How far in advance should we book?
Sixty days for a single session, ninety or more for a conference keynote. Burnout is one of the most requested topics on the circuit right now, so the credentialed speakers in this category commit earlier than most.
