Kansas is more industrially specialised than most people outside it realise, and the specialisations are unusual ones. Wichita builds aircraft. The corridor running from Kansas City out to Manhattan holds one of the largest concentrations of animal health companies anywhere in the world. And the wheat and cattle economy across the western half of the state operates on a scale that makes agriculture a serious business audience rather than a rural one.
There is also a geographic quirk worth knowing before you book. A large share of events described as Kansas City happen on the Kansas side, in Overland Park and Johnson County. That audience is corporate, affluent and suburban, and it is a very different room from Wichita or Topeka even though all three sit in the same state. If your venue is in Overland Park, brief the speaker for a metro audience rather than a Kansas one.
We are based in Nebraska, which puts most of Kansas within driving distance for us and for several of our speakers. On an association budget that difference is often what makes a bigger name affordable.

Where Kansas Events Actually Happen
Overland Park and Johnson County host a large share of the state's corporate meetings, and the convention facilities there serve the wider Kansas City metro. Many events branded as Kansas City are physically in Kansas, which matters for both your logistics and your speaker brief.
Wichita is the largest city and the industrial centre, with Century II and the surrounding downtown venues carrying association annuals and manufacturing-sector programming. The audience here skews toward engineering, aviation and skilled trades.
Topeka is the capital, which makes it the natural home for state association meetings, government and public-sector programming, and anything tied to the legislative calendar.
Manhattan matters beyond its size because of Kansas State and the research activity around agriculture and animal health. Ag-adjacent and veterinary programming frequently lands there rather than in a metro.
Salina, Hays, Dodge City and Garden City host regional and county-level meetings across the western half of the state, generally with tighter budgets and a firm preference for speakers who will not condescend to a rural room.

A note on regional loyalties
College sports allegiances run deep and are not uniform across this state, and a speaker positioned around one programme can quietly alienate part of a statewide room. We take that into account when recommending for Kansas rather than defaulting to whoever has the biggest regional name. It is a small thing that occasionally matters a great deal.

Is my Kansas City event in Kansas or Missouri?
Worth checking, because it changes the brief. Overland Park, Lenexa and Olathe are in Kansas and serve the metro audience. Downtown Kansas City is in Missouri. The room is similar, the state associations and local references are not.
Do you cover Wichita?
Yes, and it is a distinct market from the Kansas City side. The audience skews technical and industrial, and we brief speakers accordingly.
Do I have to book a Kansas-based speaker?
No. Every speaker on our roster travels. We are based in Nebraska, so much of Kansas is a drive rather than a flight, which usually reduces the travel line on your budget.
