Lawton, Enid and the western counties carry military, agriculture and energy, with smaller regional audiences and tighter budgets.
Tribal nation venues and conference facilities across the state host a substantial amount of business, and several are among the better equipped meeting spaces in their regions.

Severe weather, in practical terms
Spring is storm season. Most events run without incident, and this is not a reason to avoid April through June. It is a reason to do three small things. Confirm the venue's shelter location. Give your speaker the procedure in writing. And agree in advance who makes the call to pause, so that decision is not being improvised on stage.
Winter carries a different risk. Ice storms here can be severe and the road network is exposed, so fly speakers in the day before for December through February dates.
The framing to avoid
No Dust Bowl references, no flyover jokes, and nothing that treats the state as a punchline about being unremarkable. Oklahoma audiences are used to being characterised by people who have never worked here and they discount it immediately.
